BR-002: A Multicenter “Ablate and Resect” Study of Novilase Interstitial Laser Therapy for the Ablation of Small Breast Cancers

Purpose of the BR-002 Novilase Clinical Trial
The primary purpose of the BR-002 Trial is to evaluate the rate of complete tumor ablation (destruction by laser) of breast cancers that are less than or equal to 2 centimeters. Tumor ablation results will be compared using post-laser ablation imaging (e.g., MRI, ultrasound and mammography) and post-excision (e.g., lumpectomy) pathology for detecting any residual tumor.
“The goal is to evaluate whether minimally invasive laser ablation of early-stage breast cancer can be a treatment alternative to traditional surgical lumpectomy. With laser therapy, this may be performed more conveniently, with less pain and with less deformity.
